江戸眼福(EDO GANPUKU)

Suddenly, I was in Edo.

The faces I'd only ever seen in ukiyo-e were standing right in front of me. Gashadokuro. Fisherman Fuka-shichi. Nine-tattoo Ryūkichi. Yaegaki-hime. Every one of them real. Every one of them full of life.

When they noticed my aviators, they each reached out a hand. Something lived in those eyes behind the lenses.

The souls of Edo, united.

The people of Edo were tough and funky.
They danced with skeletons, carried dragons on their backs, stood against raging waves, and lived alongside yokai.
The legendary characters of the ukiyo-e world, now gathered in the modern age.
From the streets of Edo to the streets of today.

The colossal skeleton depicted in Utagawa Kuniyoshi's masterpiece Takiyasha the Witch and the Skeleton Spectre — the crystallized form of the grudge of thousands of soldiers fallen on the battlefield. The overwhelming composition that shatters all existing frameworks is the symbol of a "roaring rebellion" against the age. Embedded in the aviator sunglasses is the will to "strike back" — fangs sharpened in silence.

【The Root of the Soul: The Loyalty of a Lone Warrior】
A Genji warrior disguised as a rough fisherman, painted by Utagawa Toyokuni III.

The hero of Utagawa Kuniyoshi's masterpiece Suikoden — Nine-Dragon Ryūkichi.

【The Root of the Soul: The Obsession That Breaks Through Fate】
A tragic princess painted by Utagawa Kunisada, burning with fierce, hidden passion.

Though held captive in enemy territory, upon learning that her beloved faced mortal danger, she borrowed the spiritual power of her family's heirloom (fox-fire) and raced across the frozen Lake Suwa. The manifestation of an obsession that transcended all physical limits.
Behind her aviator sunglasses, no obstacle registers in her field of vision.
She cuts through the noise of the present and reaches her own truth — love — by the most direct path.

  • Denkichi

【Soul Origin: The Pathfinder Who Lights the Dark】 A firefighter of Edo nights, rendered by Utagawa Toyokuni III.

The lantern he raises is a beacon — a single light cutting through chaos, pointing the way forward. The tattoos carved into his skin are an indelible oath, worn by one who walks the line between life and death.

Wearing aviator shades, Denkichi sees clean through the smoke of modern information — and points straight to the truth. Wherever he stands, one clear path cuts through the noise of a confused age.

  • Megane Bijin

【Soul Origin: The Ultimate Street Survivor】 A street woman of Edo's shadows, rendered by Utagawa Toyokuni III.

Edo at that time faced a global little ice age — a land of cold beyond modern imagination. Snow piling to the knees, winds below freezing. In these brutal conditions, she chose to stand barefoot on the street. Not mere poverty — this is the ultimate act of defiance, a lone body refusing to yield to a merciless world.

Wearing aviator shades, she blocks out both the glare of snow and the sneer of society in one move, filtering through modern noise to capture only the light of truth. This is the origin of true street fashion — style worn at the cost of life, bowing to no trend.
